Many people living in Colorado today are unaware of the history of racism in the state. Donaciano Martínez witnessed a part of this history growing up as a Chicano in Colorado Springs during the 1940s and 50s, during which time Mexican Americans were subjected to racism and segregation in the city. Donaciano shares his personal experiences to provide a glimpse into the past, and to help us understand that racist attitudes of today are a continuation of the overt racism of recent history.
