      History of Industrial Design

      It is important to remember that you choose a topic which is not only interesting to you but also appropriate to your capabilities and to the time available.  This guide lists some of the library sources useful for research in the area of the historical perspective of industrial design.  Industrial Design is an exciting field and there are a wealth of resources in a variety of databases that can aid in you research.

       

        Scholarly Articles

      Articles published in professional or scholarly journals are written by and for scholars and researchers in the field, and aim to communicate with others in the profession such as professors, scientists and advanced students. 

      The articles typically focus on a narrow topic and are written with the vocabulary of the profession.  

      The articles in a professional journal are often peer-reviewed or refereed by a group of scholars in the same field as the author.  An article published in a peer-reviewed journal is regarded with a high degree of trust by others in the profession. 

      Professional journals: 

      • Report original research, discoveries, experimentation, reviews, or essays
      • Cite sources and provide footnotes and/or bibliographies
      • Are often peer reviewed by an editor or specialists in the field for accuracy
      • Often contain graphs, statistics, case studies
      • Are often published by academic or association presses
      • Contain selective advertising
