Libraries, Librarians, Ethics and Self-Help Law

In order to protect the public, persons not admitted to the practice of law in Colorado, cannot hold themselves out as lawyers in Colorado or as authorized to practice law in Colorado. The practice of law [in Colorado] by a person who is not a licensed attorney in good standing with the State Bar is prohibited by the Rules of Professional Conduct, Rule 5.5 (a) (1). C.R.C.P. The Unauthorized Practice of Law and Multijurisdictional Practice of Law.

What actually constitutes the practice of law? The answer to that question remains unclear with an increasing number of rights being determined in federal and state agencies.

Generally, staff in Libraries, including Law Libraries, cannot, ethically, give you legal advice. But they can show you how to use their legal resources.

    Constitutional Law - Congressional Debates

A Century of Lawmaking for a New Nation

Beginning with the Continental Congress in 1774, America's national legislative bodies have kept records of their proceedings.

The records of the Continental Congress, the Constitutional Convention, and the United States Congress make up a rich documentary history of the construction of the nation and the development of the federal government and its role in the national life.

These documents record American history in the words of those who built our government.
