 3)  Tax Help Sites In Your Location - Piton Foundation

The program is designed to help taxpayers whose household income is less than about $49,000 a year. According to census figures, about 30% of Colorado families are eligible for the program. In particular, Tax Help Coloradotargets lower-income working families who are eligible for tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit. For these families, who are struggling to make ends meet, paying a paid tax preparer $200 or more to have their tax return done is an added financial burden. Visit the Tax Help Colorado sites and get your tax return prepared and e-filed for free by IRS-certified college students. Services are free to taxpayers with household income less  than $49,000.

Face-to-face Tax Help:  IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centers are your source for personal tax help when you believe your tax issue cannot be handled online or by phone, and you want face-to-face assistance.

Statement from the I.R.S.: If you need to resolve a tax problem, have questions about how the tax law applies to your individual tax return, or you're more comfortable talking with someone face-to-face, visit your local Taxpayer Assistance Center where you can spread out your records and talk with an IRS representative across the counter. No appointment is necessary - just walk in. If you prefer, you may call a local number (see chart, below) to learn about available and alternate services, and to reschedule appointments with IRS personnel. If you have an ongoing, complex tax account problem or a special need, such as a disability, an appointment may be requested. If you are deaf or hard of hearing and would like to request an appointment, please provide us with a telephone number to reach you during business hours or your email address. All other issues will be handled without an appointment.

The IRS has a new online tool to help low- and moderate- income tax payers find prep help. “The new tool, available 24 hours a day on IRS.gov, makes it easier than ever for qualified individuals to find free help through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Volunteers at VITA locations generally offer tax preparation for people with incomes of $50,000 or less free of charge.”   Taxpayers can search the word “VITA” in IRS.gov and click on the option “Free Tax Return Preparation For You by Volunteers,” followed by ”Find a VITA site near you” to access the tool.
