Showcases rare prompt books from the Folger Shakespeare Library. These prompt books illustrate how Shakespeare's plays were performed between the 17th and 19th centuries throughout Great Britain, the United States, and internationally.
The prompt book is the production's bible, containing instructions and information alongside the basic text of the play. As well as the actors lines, you will often see cues for music, movement, light, staging, costumes and many other aspects of stage business.
