Auraria Library subscribes to several databases which can be very useful when searching for resources. While Start My Research pulls from all our subscriptions, it can sometimes be more helpful to look in a subject specific database when you know what kind of information you're looking for.
On the main database page you can see two drop down menus and search box.
If you select the Subject Drop Down you will see a list of subjects to sort the databases with:
Similarly, if you select the Content Type Drop Down you can select what type of content to filter the database list by:
For example, if we select Primary Sources as a content type, we will get a list of 58 databases focused on primary sources.
Now if we choose a Subject, say, LGBTQIA+ Studies, the results will return only databases with both Primary Sources and LGBTQIA+ Studies
It's best to start by brainstorming some Keywords for your research topic. Keywords are typically nouns or noun phrases.
You can combine keywords with boolean operators to broaden or limit your search.
AND: search for both keywords
OR: search for either keyword
NOT: exclude a keyword
IMPORTANT! Use all caps for the operator when searching!
Quotation marks around phrases will return results with only that exact phrase in it.
Use * for truncation.
You can use filters to limit to peer-reviewed articles or to a specific subject or date range.
Using an Advanced Search, you can enter each keyword and its synonyms into a separate search line.
