Databases: Finding Journal Articles: Database Tools

This guide will help you search databases and journals to find relevant articles in any field.

Current Awareness

Current awareness features allow you to..

  • Set up permanent searches.
  • Save a search you have created and run it manually whenever you wish.
  • Receive emails or RSS notifications (auto-alerts) when new research matching your search criteria is added to the database.
  • Sign up for table of contents (TOC) alerts from journals.

To use these features, you will need to set up a personal account in a database's vendor (examples: EBSCO, ProQuest). Most vendors allow you to create a personal account and then, when you use any database from that vendor, you will have access to your saved searches, alerts, etc. When you are in a database, look for links to create an account or sign-in.

Database Apps

Search in the app store for a resource/database (e.g. ScienceDirect, DSM-5), or publisher (e.g. EBSCO, Elsevier, ProQuest).

Types of apps available: e-readers, table downloads, matching sentences, and search translator (depends upon the database and publisher).

BE AWARE- some apps are free and others are not.
