In the United States, sociology is the study of human organizations in our own contemporary industrial civilization. Anthropology is the same study in other cultures. This distinction is important, but not for reasons that many suppose, since the methodologies & aims of the two disciplines are largely identical. In the UK, for example, they use the term "Social Anthropology" instead of "Sociology" to describe the same discipline, emphasizing the similarities. All this means is that you may need to also utilize anthropology resources for your research as well.
